I'm Jeff. I've been in IT since 1995 — QA, a bit of development, mostly systems administration — and a maker for about as long as I've been anything. Former mechanic. The hobbies rotate: right now it's jewelry and metalwork, with a woodworking lathe in the corner that still gets used.
This site is where the making and the writing meet. Some of it is how-to — here's what I did, here's what went wrong, here's what I'd do differently. Some of it is closer to a field report from someone learning a thing in public. And some of it is about AI, which I've been figuring out how to actually use rather than just have opinions about.
I try to write the kind of piece I'd want to read: plain, honest about what I don't know, and willing to say when something turned out not to be for me. If a project failed, that's usually the more useful article anyway.
There are also a few small web apps here — tools I built for my own use and left running where anyone can get at them.

Email is best — jeff@soule.me. There's also an RSS feed if you'd rather not rely on an algorithm to tell you when something new goes up.
