When Dreams become Reality
Bladed instruments have always fascinated me. Every thing from their history to how these tools have evolved over time. Over the years my dreams have often been about making my own works of art created for tasks that range from preparing a meal, cutting rope, chopping wood for a fire and much more.
For a time, life showed me that I had more important things to do then follow this dream. Things like taking care of my family rightly took a front seat to such things. And God what an awesome family I have! I have seriously been blessed an amazing wife, awesome kids, not to mention some grandkids to spoil too! I mean this is really what life is all about anyways.
Recently I came upon a unique opportunity where I could pursue this dream if I still wanted to. This opportunity also arrived at a time when I was thinking about how to keep my mind sharp as I get older. Recent studies suggest that learning new skills help to keep the brain functioning well and that was pretty much the last point that convinced me to run with this (Not to mention a good argument for that awesome wife I mentioned before. For some reason she wants me to hang around until I am really old.).
So after a little back story here is the rub. I plan to use this site to chronicle (cue awesome music) “My Adventures In Knife Making!”
STOP!
Wait, Stop?!
What do you mean stop?!
What the heck are you doing here, I have no need for you now.
Oh come on, of course you do! I’m here to save your ass… Blah blah blah, Who do you really think wants to read your more than a little crazy thoughts on something that you don’t even know enough to talk intelligently about?
Well, while that is an interesting point… You probably shouldn’t say it.
I am not sure if anybody would want to read this, but that is okay with me. I figure that if I can’t explain something, then I really don’t know it, so this site will also serve to test what I think that I have learned.
There is another reason though also personal. I have noticed that some people just want to see the knight ride off into the sunset with the princess with no thought of the history. I however, want to know more about how the knight got there in the first place. There is not much said about the bumps, bruises and victories that a person experiences while becoming the princess rescuing knight that everybody else wishes they were.
So… Your saying that becoming a blade-smith is like becoming a knight? You really are off your nut you know.
Yes I know, I’m talking to you aren’t I?
Actually, I am just saying that to become or do anything significant you need to go through the messy parts first. You have to learn, practice and practice and practice even more. And I want to chronicle some of the journey.
So wait, that last thing you said is really what this is all about, and you made me listen to all that other babble? I still say you’re a total nut case, but I have never been able to stop you before so have at.
Thanks, I will.
