Bubinga as a knife handle? Will it hold up over time?
I discovered a store in town that carries some exotic hardwoods and swung by to take a look at what they have in stock. After a while I came away with a 3 foot long piece of Bubinga which caught my eye. I am not sure how well Bubinga will hold up as a knife handle because it seems a bit brittle, though very hard and easy to burn. In any case I cut a piece off and finished this knife.

I also needed a sheath so I heated up a bit of kydex and made one with an adjustable belt “loop”. Right now this has become my favorite knife. It’s beautifully slim and the color of the Bubinga is quite striking.

My hope is that the handle material will hold up well. If it does Bubinga could become one of my favorites. And not just because it has an epic name.
